TAL was invited to attend a forum to promote cooperation with UNESCO in jointly combating the COVID-19 pandemic

On April 30, China's National Commission for UNESCO Secretariat (referred to as "UNESCO National Commission") organized the "Online Forum on Collaboration to Jointly Combat the COVID-19 Pandemic". TAL Education Research Institute was invited to attend and deliver a speech.

Qin Changwei, the Secretary-General of the UNESCO National Commission, pointed out, " "The primary goal of convening this online forum is to implement the Party Central Committee's directives on winning the battle against COVID-19, deepen collaboration with UNESCO, foster global solidarity, jointly combat the pandemic, and build a community of shared future for mankind."

At the meeting, Director Du Yue of the African Priority and External Relations Department of UNESCO analyzed the pandemic’s impact on UNESCO’s work. He stated: "The epidemic is not only a challenge, but also an inspiration. UNESCO is more aware than ever of the prominent significance of building a community with a shared future for mankind, promoting peacebuilding, and combatting discrimination."

In response, he proposed two suggestions to strengthen collaboration with UNESCO: First, to actively engage in this globally significant discussion to contribute Chinese wisdom and solutions; second, to enhance the quality and impact of UNESCO cooperation projects through strategic planning and optimized resource allocation.

As early as April 2019, TAL signed a strategic cooperation agreement with UNESCO to jointly implement the " AI for Future Education" plan to help education development. At the forum, Chen Min, Assistant Dean of the TAL Education Research Institute, mentioned that after the outbreak of COVID-19, TAL set up a special fund of 100 million RMB to fight the pandemic, of which 20 million RMB was donated to the Wuhan Charity Federation and 80 million RMB was used for education-specific initiatives, to help children nationwide "continue learning despite the suspension of classes."

The education-specific fund focuses on three key areas:

Provide free live-streaming platforms and technical support to primary and secondary schools in Hubei Province and other regions nationwide;

Provide free online live-teaching solutions for offline training institutions in Hubei Province and other regions nationwide;Launch free synchronized live-streamed classes for students in Hubei Province and other regions nationwide who cannot resume in-person classes.

Internationally, TAL also provided educational software and courses to children in countries affected by the pandemic, supporting global youth in continuing their education joyfully during challenging times. In the future, TAL will deepen collaboration with UNESCO to jointly combat the pandemic and advance the vision of building a global community with a shared future.
