The report covers the period from March 1, 2019 to February 29, 2020. According to the Report, in 2019, TAL's public welfare service scope expanded to multiple cities including Gansu, Yunnan, Sichuan, and Hebei, engaging over 5,000 volunteers and accumulating 18,668 volunteer hours by 2019. After the outbreak of the epidemic, TAL established a special fund of 100 million yuan to fight the epidemic.
Promoting intelligent education poverty alleviation
The report shows that in 2019, TAL's smart classroom system entered Changning Siyuan Experimental School in Baoshan City, Yunnan Province. At the same time, TAL has built 53 dual-teacher classrooms in 10 schools in Jimunai County, Xinjiang, achieving full coverage of all schools in the county. By the end of February 2020, these initiatives had benefited over 100 classrooms and more than 6,000 students.
In 2019, TAL donated the Hope Online Education Welfare Platform to 51 counties in Sichuan, Yunnan, Gansu and other provinces; It also provided campus decision-making big data platform to 10 Siyuan Experimental Schools in remote provinces such as Yunnan, Gansu, Guizhou and Jiangxi. Additionally, TAL constructed "TAL Library" at the Siyuan Experimental School in Guizhou.
Meanwhile, TAL also donated 1,200 sets of AI-animated synchronized courses for primary school subjects (Chinese, Math, and English) to elementary schools in Wei County, Hebei (a national poverty alleviation and development designated county). It donated 300 annual VIP accounts for rural mountain schools. In Liangshan Yi Autonomous Prefecture, Sichuan, TAL promoted the "AI Teacher" Mandarin teaching system, reaching over 80,000 students and 2,000 teachers by the end of February 2020. TAL also donated teaching aids and textbooks to schools in Sichuan and Hebei.
Since its establishment, TAL has continued to provide smart education services with public schools across the country. The report said that in 2019, TAL's smart education services have covered 645 schools in 19 provinces, 3 autonomous regions and 4 municipalities across the country, benefiting more than 6,500 teachers and 100,000 students.
The report shows that TAL's education welfare practice has evolved through three stages, with “funding support” as the first stage, “infrastructure provision” as the second stage and “technology empowerment” as the third stage. Looking ahead, TAL pledged to deepen intelligent education-driven poverty alleviation.
Build an open platform
In 2019, TAL further opened up its education open platform.Leveraging its advancements in AI research and practical applications in education scenarios, TAL built the AI Open Platform to promote openness and collaborative development in the AI+education sector. It launched the WISROOM Smart Classroom 2.0, along with AI-powered products like Research Cloud, T-Box Intelligent Terminals, and AI Foreign Teachers.
In youth education, in 2019, TAL released the annual"Xueersi Moral Education Series Course" to help young teachers improve their ideological and political quality and professional ethics.
According to the report, by the end of 2019, the TAL Education Open Platform had worked with 4,500 partner institutions to bring high-quality educational resources to 260 cities and regions across China.
In addition, the report stated that "new infrastructure construction" remains a key focus for the TAL Education Open Platform.

After the outbreak of COVID-19, TAL established a special fund of 100 million yuan to fight the pandemic on January 26, of which 20 million was donated to the Wuhan Charity Federation and 80 million was used as a special fund to help students in Hubei and other severely affected areas across China to cope with "no classes, no learning".
Specific measures include: providing free Intelligent Classroom Solutions and technical support for primary and secondary schools in Hubei Province and other severely affected areas, providing online live-streaming teaching solutions for offline training institutions in Hubei Province and other severely affected areas , and launching free live-streamed courses aligned with school curricula for students unable to attend in-person classes in Hubei Province and other severely affected areas.
In addition to the 20 million yuan donation to fight the pandemic, TAL purchased 100,000 yuan of anti-epidemic materials, delivered 6,125 love meals with a total value of 200,000 yuan to front-line personnel, and established a points charity project based on its TAL Charitable Foundation.
Besides, TAL dispatched more than 20,000 masks from abroad to provide to front-line operation and maintenance staff, and purchased 8,000 workstations and 16,000 monitors to ensure teachers had the necessary equipment for remote teaching.
By the end of February 2020, TAL's business scope spanned smart education, education open platforms, K12 after-school education and overseas study services, covering ages 0 to 24.
In 2013, TAL established the TAL Charitable Foundation, which has donated a total of 8.5 million yuan so far. It co-founded initiatives like the Hope Online Education Welfare Platform, Beyond Horizon Education Charity Foundation, and the Beijing Xingbang Public Welfare Foundation. In 2019, TAL donated a total of 10.5 million yuan to institutions such as the Beyond Horizon Education Charity Foundation, the China Children and Teenagers’ Fund, and the Beijing Haidian Education Foundation to support educational public welfare programs.
