Xueersi Hosts Symposium with Experts on New Curriculum Standards

Recently, the "New Curriculum Standard Core Literacy Research and Practice" seminar organized by the Joint Youth Cultural Literacy Development and Promotion Project and Xueersi was held in Beijing. This seminar revolved around topics such as how to implement the requirements of the new curriculum standard in teaching and research, and how to achieve the new curriculum standard through different forms of content carriers. Xueersi's smart content also showcased the phased exploration results of the new curriculum standard, and experts at the event shared their views and suggestions on the implementation of the new curriculum standard based on rich theoretical research and frontline teaching and research experience.

Attending this seminar were experts in the field of education, including  Li Xiaohui, Secretary General of the China National Literature Foundation and overall person in charge of the Youth Cultural Literacy Project, Xia Shenjiang, Supervisor of the China National Literature Foundation, Zhao Ningning, Associate Professor of the Literature College of Beijing Normal University, Wang Yuqi, Former expert in writing teaching materials for math textbooks of the People's Education Edition, Chen Hengshu, Deputy Editor-in-Chief of the Chinese Language Department of the People's Education Society, Jiao Jieying, Director of Primary School Chinese Teaching and Research at Dongcheng District Education Commission, Wang Lipeng, Director of the Group Office of the Development Center of Beijing 101 Middle School, and Liu Jianyu, Director of the Secondary School Mathematics Teaching and Research Office of Beijing 101 Middle School. Representatives of the Xueersi product and content team also attended the seminar.

After the release of the "Compulsory Education Curriculum Plan and Curriculum Standard (2022 Edition)", Xueersi initiated multiple rounds of exploratory research focusing on the new curriculum standard, and organized several seminars with external expert scholars. On May 24th, Xueersi officially reached a strategic cooperation with the Youth Cultural Literacy Development and Promotion Project and was awarded the "New Curriculum Standard Core Literacy Research and Practice Center". Leveraging the communication platform built by the Youth Cultural Literacy Development and Promotion Project, both parties, together with multiple teaching and research experts, have undertaken a series of special seminars on the new curriculum standard and practical training on core literacy education for Xueersi teachers. Experts actively contributed their professional expertise and valuable insights during these activities. The research outcomes will be initially implemented in Xueersi learning devices and educational publications. During this conference, the Xueersi's intelligent content team presented curriculum-aligned products, such as the "Simultaneous Learning" and "Accurate Learning" functions in the Xueersi Xpad, as well as upcoming materials such as "Summer Preview & Review" Synchronized Preview & Review" "Mind Mapping for 1000-Character Memorization"  "3-minute Cartoon Quick-recitation of Ancient Chinese Poetry for Elementary School with Zero Foundation," and the "Basic Application Questions" series, providing a report and demonstration for the experts. Attending experts commended Xueersi's practice in "technology + education" and "innovative formats + quality content", and made suggestions on how to better meet the learning needs of contemporary students under the new curriculum standard.Wang Yuqi, the former expert in writing teaching materials for math textbooks of the People's Education Edition suggested that the selection of topics in the "Basic Application Questions" should pay more attention to helping students understand the relationship between numbers and quantities in daily life, spatial forms and positions, and the connections between data. The goal is to help students transform life problems into mathematical problems and then use mathematical tools or knowledge to solve them.

Jiao Jieying, Director of Primary School Chinese Teaching and Research at Dongcheng District Education Commission highlighted the significance of preview study in implementing the new curriculum standards through the "Summer Preview & Review" materials. She emphasized that preview study is the most important ability in independent learning, requiring guidance to help children conduct comprehensive preparation.Under the requirements of the new curriculum standard, greater attention should be paid to creating a synergy through the use of language, focusing on students' thinking, confidence, and aesthetic development. Preview study should not be simply about reading pinyin or learning to form words, but should actually be implemented comprehensively. This expansion of thinking is an essential aspect of education.

The new curriculum standard emphasizes the "situationalization" and "practical ability" of knowledge. Based on this crucial change, experts at the event shared insights into multiple teaching and research methods based on their firsthand experience.Zhao Ningning, Associate Professor of the School of Chinese Language and Literature of  Beijing Normal University, speaking as both an education researcher and a parent of a Xueersi student, pondered the "design core" of the teaching content and homework through the case "Guiding Children to Create a Poetry Collection"."Creating a poetry collection" involves two dimensions: one is the logic of doing things,  writing, selecting, and organizing poems; the other is the linguistic considerations behind choosing specific poems and their rationale. "Creating a poetry collection" only represents the external logic. The true "core" is for the child to grasp language elements during the process. Research design should be goal-oriented and design all teaching products around the core content of the knowledge map.

Wang Lipeng, Director of the Group Office of the Development Center of Beijing 101 Middle School, shared the importance of guiding students' thinking and expression based on his personal experience. If students are simply asked to write about the sword of King Goujian after visiting a museum, they may struggle. However, Wang suggested that students should watch the documentaries "If National Treasures Could Speak" and "National Treasure" three times, study their descriptions, and provide three different angles to describe it. By doing this, students can write very well. "Guiding students to think and express is like building stepping stones between questions and answers for students. We should teach students that, when encountering problems, the most important thing is to think first, not how to solve it. Having an idea is the most important thing. Once they have the idea, they will naturally find a way to do it."

Members of the Xueersi team participating in the seminar expressed that the discussions with education experts were extremely beneficial. The experts have deep insights into educational trends, student needs, and teaching methods, while Xueersi has over 20 years of teaching experience and is at the forefront of educational technology research. With a common goal, everyone inspired and learned from each other, providing a fresh perspective and direction for the research, development, and comprehensive cultivation of adolescents' core literacy capabilities, which aligns with the new curriculum standards. Xueersi stated that under the new curriculum standards, developing contemporary educational content holds critical value. Xueersi will maintain sustained investment and collaborate with industry experts to co-create standards-aligned quality materials, aiming to holistically cultivate adolescents' core competencies while equipping youth with enhanced future-ready capabilities.
