"Science China Campus Tour" at Peking University, with Xueersi Natural History Department also participating!

On the afternoon of December 29, 2024, a grand event focused on natural science, "Science Popularization Chinese Universities Tour at Peking University - Natural Education Science Popularization Talent Training," was successfully held at the School of Life Sciences, Peking University. The event was led by Peking University and Science Popularization China, hosted by the Science and Technology Association of Peking University, organized by the School of Life Sciences of Peking University, and co-organized by the Xueersi Online School's Natural History Department Studio.

This event, organized by the Science and Technology Association of Peking University, was a training session aimed at science enthusiasts. Invited by the School of Life Sciences of Peking University, Dr. Dan Zhang from Xueersi Natural History Department delivered a lecture titled "Effective Learning Methods in Nature Education." Students from Xueersi Natural History Department joined senior students from Peking University in a large discussion about natural science learning methods, enjoying this knowledge carnival together.

At the beginning of the event, Tang Ping, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of the School of Life Sciences of Peking University, delivered a speech to inaugurate the event.

Following the opening remarks, Dr. Zhang Dan delivered a lecture entitled "Effective Learning Methods in Natural Education." She vividly explained the secrets of efficient learning—the PBL (Problem-Based Learning) method—using examples such as "How to Migrate to Outer Space" and "How to Fit an Elephant into a Refrigerator." The young students from the Xueersi Bot eagerly expressed their views and actively interacted with the teachers. Dr. Zhang emphasized that the research and study of natural sciences should not be limited to schools but should involve observing and exploring nature to truly understand the beauty of all things. This is also why she takes children on scientific expeditions.

Next, the special science popularization presentations by seniors from Peking University were equally captivating. These budding researchers shared their meticulous and interesting daily research activities and amazing discoveries on campus through entertaining stories, bringing continuous laughter and rich learning experiences to the audience.

The highlight of the event was the much-anticipated tour of the Biological Specimen Museum of Peking University. This museum, rich in history and vibrant, holds a legacy dating back to the Imperial University of Peking era. It houses a vast collection of rare biological specimens, including mammals, insects, and plants, each exemplifying a three-dimensional natural encyclopedia.

From these specimens, one can glimpse the evolutionary history of species, the intricate microcosm, and the diverse plant kingdom. These precious specimens, meticulously preserved following strict scientific collection and production processes, continue to contribute to scientific research and education. Guided by Dr. Zhang Dan and Dr. Meng Hao, participants strolled through the museum, experiencing the awe-inspiring biodiversity up close.

The young students also enjoyed a walk around the campus with Dr. Zhang, soaking in the distinctive academic ambiance and the unique cultural scenery of Peking University. The scenic "Yi Ta Hu Tu" landscape added a romantic touch to this science popularization journey, leaving everyone longing for more. At the end of the event, three members of the Peking University presentation team engaged in a Q&A competition with the young students from Xueersi Bot. Leveraging their extensive knowledge and excellent performance, the young students triumphed in the competition, receiving a 90-degree bow of admiration from their seniors, making the atmosphere exceptionally joyous.

Due to limited venue capacity, many interested children could not attend the event in person. However, the entire content of the event will be available on the "Xueersi Natural History Department" video channel! On January 3, 2025, at 7 PM, the Science Popularization Chinese Universities Tour Peking University - Natural Science Lecture will be officially launched. Students can search for the "Xueersi Natural Botany" video channel on WeChat to watch.

Additionally, the event's location, the Peking University Specimen Museum, is also the fourth feature of the "Museum Cloud Scientific Expedition" series of public welfare live broadcasts by Xueersi. Interested students can follow the "Xueersi Natural History Department" video channel to watch past broadcasts. The "Museum Cloud Scientific Expedition" series will continue to lead viewers on virtual tours of various museums. Xueersi Bot will also carry out a range of offline scientific expeditions, truly practicing the philosophy of "observe the world to have a worldview," sowing the seeds of science in the hearts of more children, and nurturing their boundless curiosity and desire for knowledge from an early age.
