April 13, Midu County, Yunnan – The Donation Ceremony by Peking University Graduate School of Education and TAL Education Group, alongside a Symposium on Enhancing Basic Education Quality, was held at Xincheng Complete Primary School in Micheng Town.
The Peking University Graduate School of Education and TAL Education Group jointly donated 100 Xueersi Xpads to Xincheng Central Primary School in Micheng Town. These smart learning devices will serve as platforms to expand educational resources, support personalized learning, enable more precise teaching, and advance digital technology applications at the basic education level in Midu County.Since initiating targeted poverty alleviation in Midu in 2013, Peking University has designated it as a flagship program in both the "13th Five-Year Plan" and "14th Five-Year Plan". Through progressively strengthened assistance leveraging its strengths in intellectual, educational, healthcare, cultural and industrial support, the university has implemented precision-aid initiatives that effectively boost Midu's internal development capacity, achieving notable outcomes.

The donation event in collaboration with TAL Group is another precise measure in Peking University’s targeted assistance to Midu County. In the first batch of 100 Xueersi Xpads donated, 75 will fully cover the 75 fifth-grade students at Xincheng Complete Primary School in Mixin Town, while the other 25 will be used for teachers’ teaching management and digital teaching explorations for other grades. By promoting the pilot, analyzing the application effectiveness of the Xueersi Xpads, and exploring ways to leverage digital technology to promote balanced regional education and educational equity.
It is reported that with the support of various levels of government, Xincheng Complete Primary School in Mixin Town has seen significant improvements in infrastructure in recent years. However, due to its geographical location and other reasons, the number of teachers still cannot meet the demand, and all teachers and administrative staff are performing multiple roles. Additionally, there is a high proportion of left-behind children and single-parent families among the students, posing challenges in home-school collaboration and learning motivation. This donation of Xueersi Xpads is an innovative attempt aimed at providing some assistance to teachers and parents through the learning resources and interactive methods available in the Xueersi Xpads.
At the donation ceremony and seminar on high-quality development of basic education:
For weaker subjects, students can use the targeted evaluations in the Xueersi Xpads to conduct precise learning enhancements. The comprehensive course video resources in the Xueersi Xpads can also help teachers reduce part of their tutoring workload. The Xueersi Xpads can interact in real-time with a parent's smartphone app, allowing parents working far away to communicate with their children left behind at home, understanding their learning status. To ensure that students, parents, and teachers can smoothly use the Xueersi Xpads, TAL specifically dispatched technical personnel to explain and guide on-site, helping everyone quickly understand the high-quality course resources, precision learning system, and smart learning tools incorporated in the Xueersi Xpads, better supporting in-school teaching, and allowing every child to find a suitable way of use.
Wei Chen, Party Secretary and Executive President of TAL Group, communicated with the attending students. The Learning Sciences Laboratory of the Peking University Graduate School of Education and TAL Group will conduct concurrent research to deeply analyze the application effectiveness of the Xueersi Xpads in pilot schools, exploring the means to promote balanced development of education through technology and the possibilities for further promotion. Both parties committed to continue collaborating to support the basic education initiative in Midu County, laying a more solid foundation for the children's future. It is hoped that through this donation event, not only will students in Midu County have more abundant learning resources, but it will also advance local balanced and digital development of basic education.
