With smiles, tears, and emotions, 2018 TAL Public Welfare Documentary | Our Year

In 2018, TAL celebrated its 15th anniversary, and TAL Public Welfare marked its 10th year. This year, in response to the nation's call for "targeted poverty alleviation," TAL visited Qixingguan in the Wumeng Mountain Area, one of the 14 contiguous destitute areas, and met with children from 8 rural kindergartens to explore ways to serve rural preschool education in collaboration with the China Development Research Foundation.

TAL also visited Yuexi Central School in Dazhou, Sichuan, which was supported by the 'One Foundation's Walk for Love' charity hike participated by TAL employees. The team attended classes, conducted home visits, and gained a first-hand understanding of the difficulties faced by children in mountainous areas. Utilizing the employee charity platform - Charity Map launched by the TAL Public Welfare Foundation, more TAL employees visited migrant worker children’s schools around Beijing, beautifying the campuses with the children.

They engaged with the "Sunshine Ward School" of the Beijing New Sunshine Charity Foundation, bringing knowledge and joy to children with serious illnesses. They also took part in the "Micro Wave Library" initiated by the New Citizen Program, providing book borrowing services to children in migrant worker schools.

In 2018, TAL's public welfare efforts expanded to regions including Yunnan, Guizhou, Sichuan, Shaanxi, and Hebei, contributing to the development of rural teachers, left-behind children, migrant worker children, seriously ill children, and family education. A total of 2,430 individuals participated in public welfare activities, providing 12,298 hours of service to 88,439 children and 2,561 teachers.

Educational Aid: Helping More People Equally Enjoy Educational Resources

A good education can give rural children wings, helping them to leave the mountains and achieve their dreams. Over the past year, TAL created a comprehensive support system for students, teachers, and schools in impoverished areas, promoting the balanced development of urban and rural education.

Guided by the key poverty alleviation counties and areas supported by the nation, TAL actively engaged in deep educational cooperation with local governments and education departments.

On April 16, TAL and the Xiong County Education Bureau in Hebei established a partnership to co-build a public-private model intelligent education demonstration school, aimed at improving the quality and informatization level of education in the Xiong'an New Area.

On May 27, TAL collaborated with Wangmo County in Guizhou. Combining resources from TAL's Xiwang Online, Smart Education, and Dual-teacher Classes, they delivered personalized education and provided a complete digital service for teaching in underdeveloped areas.

In September, TAL's Xueersi Online School launched the "AI Teacher Smart Education" poverty alleviation project in Zhaojue County, Liangshan Prefecture. In October and November, TAL's Smart Education engaged in educational informatization collaborations with Wenshan and Changning Counties in Yunnan Province, promoting the construction of smart educational demonstration schools and improving the informatization level of local education.

Beyond collaborations with local governments and education departments, TAL also promoted industry cooperation by connecting with excellent educational enterprises and public welfare organizations to explore more possibilities in educational philanthropy.

In May, TAL was a representative private education institution that donated an education-focused poverty alleviation fund and resources to the Education Poverty Alleviation Work Committee of the China Private Education Association.

Caring for Children: Every Child Deserves a Better Future

Understanding the world and enjoying the joy of learning is a beautiful thing every child should experience. However, some children temporarily lose the opportunity to learn due to illness. TAL's public welfare in 2018 was also about accompanying these children.

In 2018, TAL volunteers provided offline tutoring to 1,623 children in hospital wards. On September 27, the TAL Public Welfare Foundation signed a donation agreement with the Beijing New Sunshine Charity Foundation, providing "Hope Online" and Xueersi Lite courses to 3,000 leukemia children in 30 hospital wards across 16 cities, ensuring they received quality online education even while at home due to illness.

Focusing on Family: Creating a Positive Growing Environment for Children

Good family education can influence a child's entire life. In 2018, TAL collaborated with various institutions to support every family in conducting good family education, promoting its development.

"Parent-Child Reading" was an important entry point for TAL in advancing family education in 2018.

Charity Map: Measuring Every Inch of Land with Love and Technology

From the inception of TAL’s educational public welfare, employee volunteers have always been the most important and valuable assets. In 2018, the TAL Public Welfare Foundation created an online public welfare platform - Charity Map, supporting TAL employees nationwide in uniting their efforts and participating in public welfare more conveniently.

In May, teachers from TAL’s subsidiary, Leaps English, taught at Beijing Huaa migrant worker children’s school, delivering engaging and fun English classes, totaling 190 hours of volunteer teaching.

In July, employee volunteers from various TAL departments accompanied children at migrant worker children’s schools, attending classes, playing games, and painting walls together.

In October, TAL volunteers visited the "One Playground" project site with partners from the One Foundation, understanding the practical implementation and usage of the facilities.

Behind every public welfare activity lies the heart of TAL employees wanting every child to grow up happily.

“Driving educational progress with technology,” “enabling everyone to enjoy fair and quality education and realize their life dreams” are missions that TAL upholds; “helping more people to equally enjoy educational resources” is the consistent purpose of the TAL Public Welfare Foundation.

In 2018, we continuously explored and took action on the path of educational public welfare.

In 2019, we are ready to work even harder for a brighter future for more children!

TAL Public Welfare Foundation is the first non-public fundraising foundation in the domestic education and training industry. With the mission of "helping more people equally enjoy educational resources," it leverages TAL Education Group's outstanding teaching and research resources in basic education and its innovative capabilities in internet education to promote the development of educational philanthropy from three aspects: educational equity, educational innovation, and industry advancement.
